make a flyer
Today you are going to create a flyer. A flyer is a single sheet of paper with advertising.
We are going to advertise a food drive that we are going to have here.
Second Harvest is a food bank in Savannah that provides food for the hungry people in Savannah and the surrounding areas.
CGCA has had a Canned Food Drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food bank many years. It is important to do things to help your community.
Having a food drive is a small way that we can help our community.
The Business Classes are going to be responsible for:
Advertising the Food Drive: Creating Flyers, Hanging Flyers, Making Announcements and other ways of getting the drive going strong!
Designating Collection Places in the Building: Find and decorate boxes for the food drive, place the boxes in classrooms
Collecting the food from the collection boxes and sorting it:
Gather all the food from the collection places and take to the Business Class headquarters (Room 11).
Get rid of any out-of date food that has been donated
Box things up in manageable (not too heavy to lift) boxes - put a Business Class Food Drive Flyer in every box and seal them.
Calling the Second Harvest Food Bank when the drive is over and helping to load the van or truck that comes to collect it.
STEP ONE - CREATE A FLYER FOR THE FOOD DRIVE
Each student will create a flyer. This activity will be for a grade in the class - it is important to follow the directions and do a good job on your flyer.
A flyer needs to be eye catching - that means that it needs to have a look that makes people want to read it. This can be done with bold fonts and, of course, color. Unfortunately we do not have a color printer – but color is something that can be added later with markers.
A flyer also needs to be easy to read. You should not put a whole bunch of different fancy fonts on any one thing. It just makes your page start to look cluttered.
The information on a flyer should get right to the point without making people read too much. You want them to get the idea in as few words as possible. But you do need to make sure that you give them enough information to fully understand what it is that you are advertising.
You must include the name of the school and the name of your class on the flyer.
You are to use Microsoft Word to create a flyer. Watch the video below to see what you need to do.
